A Short History
Background

Larry started out as one of those head-down programmers in college, but eventually tapped back into his creative side and discovered his love of web design and coloring with big boxes of crayons.
Larry’s goal is to design world class sites and applications for the web that are friendly and usable. He hopes to make people generally happier in the process. He has yet to think of any reason why the web can’t be a pleasant place for people to do business online, and generally be more productive on a regular basis.
Larry currently lives in Lancaster, Pennsylvania with his wife and two cats. He’s still getting used to living on the East coast.
Larry thoroughly enjoys cereal, mario kart, and Apple computers. He’s not such a big fan of brussel sprouts, mid-February, and ugly software.
He believes just about any meal is best eaten with a bowl and spoon. The logo for Myers DS reflects this opinion.
Behind The Scenes
Myers DS is powered by the new and shiny Ruby on Rails framework. The publishing is done with the Simplist CMS. It’s a hand rolled content management system that Larry developed himself after not really finding anything that met his needs.
Everything on this site should validate to XHTML 1.0 Strict, but I’m sure there are a few places that might have been missed. Currently there aren’t any deliberate hacks for IE6 either, so if some of the site looks funky in Internet Explorer I apologize. Might I suggest Firefox? It really is a nicely done browser.
Myers DS is hosted on a VPS on Slicehost. This gives Larry the ability play both the roles of web developer and system admin.
Tools
Pretty much everything here is hand coded in Textmate. It’s hands down the best text editor for OS X.
Graphics work is done in Fireworks. Photoshop is crazy expensive.
Everything is done on a 1st generation MacBook Pro that excels at making web development fun and keeping laps warm on frosty winter nights.
