Taking Car of Your Oil Furnace
If you have an oil furnace you will have to take more care of it than if you had a gas furnace. Your oil furnace will last much longer if you take car to look after it properly. Annual cleaning of your furnace will lengthen its live expectancy. Although it is not difficult to do it can be quite messy.
The first thing to do is to disconnect the power supply. You will then need to remove the burner assembly which is where the electrodes are located. Every model is different and you should follow instructions in your manual. The next thing to do is to replace the nozzle with a new one making sure that the spray pattern is still the same.
By wiping down the entire assembly carefully, you can make sure that all oil and soot is removed. You should inspect the electrodes and if the insulators contain any cracks or are eroded in any way, you will need to replace them. You will have to position and gap the electrodes before you inspect them. In order to make sure that this is done properly and to prevent the risk of fires or explosions, you will need to buy a special tool.
You will also have to wipe down the oil pump, air passages, transformer and its electrodes and the cage on the combustion blower. You can restart the furnace again once you have put it all back together. You should expect it to restart very quickly and silently
Cleaning your oil furnace will help it to last longer but only if it is done correctly. You will find more detailed instructions on how to clean your individual furnace in the instruction manual that should have come with your furnace. But if you feel that you cannot carry out this job properly it might be a good idea to have a professional come each year to do it.

If i run my car vaccum cleaner from the 12 volt power supply (from car's battery) do i need to run the engine?
to prevent the battery from draining? I usually run the vacuum for about 15 minutes, but someone told me i am supposed to run the car engine when i do this, or i will destroy the car battery.
if you were to drain the battery to the point of dead or half dead alot it will ruin the battery life, it will not last as long, a car battery is not designed to be totally drained and recharged over and over, thats called deep cycling, thats why a car battery in a boat will not last long, a boat battery is called a deep cycle marine battery, its designed to be drained dead and recharged over and over again,
