Boating Safety And Communications
Going out on a boat doesn’t have to mean being disconnected from the rest of the world. Sure, many people seek out boat trips for some quiet time to escape the madness of civilization; but that doesn’t mean that they should completely disconnect. It isn’t at all wise to do so as communication channels are absolutely essential for safety and navigation when out at sea. At the very least, a boat should be equipped with a long-range two-way radio. The open waters are a very volatile environment and people who want to journey through it should be prepared for the worst. Shakespeare Marine manufactures and distributes an array of antennas for communications purposes. Every modern boat should be equipped with one.
Not everyone likes to be recluse. Some might love to cruise on a boat but cannot be removed from television and internet connection. There are boating antennas just for this. Antennas do, of course, have far more essential uses like for radar, mobile telephony, global positioning systems or GPS, and other satellite communications. Special designs are needed for boat antennas because boating poses great stresses to such sensitive equipment. They will only end up breaking otherwise because of high wind and vessel speeds. If you’re looking for antennas, then Shakespeare Marine is your best bet. Even the US Coast Guard and Navy rely on them for their communications.
Boat safety is of utmost priority. Being equipped with proper communications tools, GPS, navigation, and radar will make for a far smoother journey. In addition to that, it is essential for all electronic and engine functions to be consistently monitored throughout a trip. There is quite an array of things to keep an eye on and these include AC power, DC power, electrical distribution (breaker status), engine (RPM, fuel flow, temperature, pressure), GPS monitoring (position, SOG, COG, satellite status), heading, indicators (smoke detectors, hatches, high bilge, motion), navigation (bearing to waypoint, XTE, time to go), rudder position, speed/distance, tank levels, transmission, vessel attitude, and anchor among others. If anything goes wrong and you don’t have a communications channel. then that may pose a life-threatening situation.
