Link Friday: The Project Management Edition
Aug 25, 2006Links that I found interesting for the week:
Proof that Dilbert Nation is Alive and Well
- Great article by the Washington Post that documents the FBI’s failures in an attempt to shift case file information from paper to an all digital solution. Obviously nobody in charge has ever read The Mythical Man Month.
- Migrating legacy apps to .NET and Java too costly. You know, understand the general idea here. But this whole article comes across as some IT consulting firm trying to sell their “application transformation process”. Rewriting applications is always expensive, and as far as I can tell there is no silver bullet. I think a better approach would be instead of rewriting these applications to get on the SOA train and just built a web service to sit on top of these legacy apps.
- Just when you thought Microsoft might have the beast that is Vista under control, the beta testers beg to differ. I’m curious to see what kind of product Microsoft releases this coming January, if at all. My money is still on OS X 10.5 being released first.
Local Lancaster, PA Links
- My new favorite place to get a good beer, Annie Bailey’s. Great authentic Irish pub in downtown Lancaster. Highly recommended if you’re out this way.
- I hereby dub Central PA as: “Land of Annoying Amusement Park Jingles”. Dutch Wonderland and Hershey’s Chocolate World are prime examples. I really wish I could have found an audio clip of the “It’s the Milk Chocolate” song the singing animatronic cows do on the World Tour ride. It could drive a person to the brink of insanity in about 3 minutes.
