Another Apple Media Fest, Another Time My Wallet Stays Put
Sep 12, 2006I’m in awe of the Apple marketing juggernaut. I believe Steve Jobs could get us excited about what he had for breakfast. Engadget has great coverage of the event. My thoughts?
- My 4G 20 gig iPod is still chugging along quite nicely. And I still enjoy the monochrome screen just fine. I won’t even think about upgrading to a new iPod until this one dies.
- I like what they’ve done with the iPod shuffle. This is something I’d take with me to the gym. I think it fills a nice niche.
- Nobody has gotten movie downloads right yet. I’m sure the pricing is due to the movie studios not wanting to kill DVD sales. Right now buying the DVD gets you better quality, a physical backup, and you can still use Handbrake to rip a copy to the computer at higher quality than you’d get from the iTunes Store. Oh, and no nasty DRM.
- iTV is pretty neat, but I think I’d rather spend $500 on a Mac Mini to use as a media center PC than $300 on an iTV.
I still think everything announced today will sell rediculously well, I’ll just be sticking with what I have right now.
