Simplicity

Nov 13, 2006

Lately there seems to be a general low rumble coming from the blogs of web designers. The general consensus seems to be that people have gotten so wrapped up in graphical CSS/AJAX/Flash voodoo that they have forgotten what makes the web great: the content.

The general sentiment just makes me happy in all sorts of ways. Even I’ve noticed that while I keep a running list of bookmarked sites whose design I like, I rarely visit them twice if they don’t have much to say. The sites that do have something to say make it into the daily rounds when I open up about 15 Safari tabs over a bowl of cereal.

The sites that make it into my daily routine are those that have something to say and say it on regular basis. I’m always extremely forgiving about design (because I’d appreciate the same slack as I work on my web design skills). As long as you have a well written website (and your own design, let go of the templates!) I will visit regularly.
