Could i Return my new piano?
I've got a brand new Schumann "Elite" so they say, piano (upright). I bought it around 6 months ago for around $6,000. It got tuned a week after i got it and some problems started to occur. The Pedal began 'Creaking' very loudly, so much that my iphone recorder picked it up when i was playing a piece, it's quite noticable. Secondly, It goes out of tune within a couple of weeks of being tuned. And when the piano got tuned the second time because i wanted those problems fixed, that tuner said he couldn't tune a certain note for some reason. It's had 4 tuners look and tune it within 6 month period, which it should only be tuned every 1/2 a year. Do you think these problems are legit for me to ask for a replacement piano, which is stated in the warranty.?
Okay, you need a PIANO TECHNICIAN to fix any faults in a piano and NOT a piano tuner. One tunes the strings, the other FIXES the mechanical problems and the machinations. IT'S A WHOLE DIFFERENT THING. So before you do anything else, get a piano technician to look at it. You'll have to pay for it but if there's anything drastically wrong he'll be able to give you a written report to show the company that you bought it from exactly what the problem is.
The creaking on the pedal is normal and the technician will fix it. I could tell you how to do it but then that might stuff up you warranty if YOU do it and not the technician. If you really WANT me to tell you how to fix it, add me as a contact, open your emails and I'll contact you and tell you then.
It's easily fixed.
Next, the dead note. The technician will fix it.
The going out of tune. Well, that's normal for a NEW piano. They take time to SETTLE in. Sometimes to two years. Grande pianos can take longer. Hows the sound apart from the tuning?
I NEVER let piano tuners near my pianos. EVER. I always call a technician (They cost the same)
I have two grande pianos and an upright. I own a music studio so I cant have creaky pedals either. I call them to tune the pianos and I say fix the Ab on the grande and theres a rattle in the upright when I play a D chord etc...fix it.
But seriously, everything you mentioned is normal for a NEW piano that's less than a year old.
In the end, it will be pointless to argue over those points for just that reason.
If it seriously irks you, sell the thing.
And next time buy a Kawai (And not a Yamaha!)
A second hand Kawai is BETTER than a brand new ANYTHING!!!
All the best
